After catching her boyfriend with a colleague in the copier room, Mirelle begins to have strange dreams of another man.  At last she reaches out and touches Jareth set Morath, her destined soul mate from a parallel world, Hearthome.  Believing herself to be dreaming, Mirelle gives Jareth her virginity and crosses the gap between worlds.  Jareth is a royal mage; he finally convinces her it isn’t a dream.  In truth, Mirelle is a royal princess who was stolen from her family as a baby.  When a princess and royal mage climax together they make special magic dust, and allow Jareth to recharge his magical energy.  If Mirelle doesn’t stay with Jareth, he will die.  Mirelle is determined not to give in to Jareth again until it is love between them and not just lust.  Together they must discover who stole Mirelle, and killed her parents, and who will rule in her Kingdom now that she is home.

Silver Fire is a very good fantasy.  The world of Hearthome was wonderfully thought out, and certainly capable of sustaining several more stories in it.  The politics are vast, complicated, and deadly – a brilliant us against the world plot.  The characters were extremely likable, and half the time I didn’t know who was good and who was bad.  I loved the magical dust that Jareth and Mirelle created while having sex, I could picture the shiny substance covering them and the room.  Jeanne Barrack also injected some understated humor into the mix.  It was amusing watching Jareth trying to get Mirelle comfortable with her birth world.  I liked that she didn’t immediately fit in, but conflicted with her surroundings.  Although I thought it was unusual for Mirelle to still be a virgin at her age, she certainly made up for it.  I highly recommend Silver Fire, and I hope the sequel arrives soon.
